Very Reverend John J. Grimes, Pastor of Saint Theresa of Lisieux Parish and Most Precious Blood Parish

FatherGrimesFather Grimes was born in Boston on July 22, 1945, the younger son of the late John J. and Mary Eileen (Hayes) Grimes.  He and his older brother, Edward, grew up in Dorchester and attended St. Kevin’s Elementary School and Mission Church High School.  Father Grimes said that his parents lived their faith, attending daily Mass and gathering the family for prayer around the kitchen table.  Following high school Father Grimes entered St. John’s Seminary; he was ordained on May 15, 1971.

Father Grimes’ first assignments were at St. Michael Parish, Bedford, and St. Athanasius Parish, Reading.  Father Grimes earned doctorates in Ministry at Andover Newton Theological School and in Psychology and Pastoral Counseling at Boston University.  From 1980 to 1995 he taught pastoral theology and psychology at Blessed John XXIII Seminary in Weston and served as the first Archdiocesan director of Hospital Chaplain Ministry, establishing a program of Clinical Pastoral Education at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.  In 1996 Father Grimes joined the Missionary Society of St. James the Apostle and served for five years in Quito, Ecuador.  There he was co-pastor of Holy Cross (Santa Cruz) Parish, director of the Masters Degree program in Marriage Family Therapy at the Salesian University, professor of Spiritual and Human Development at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, and Spiritual Director at Our Lady of Hope Seminary in Ibarra.

Father Grimes returned to Boston in 2001 and was appointed pastor of Most Precious Blood Parish in Dover.  He was also named adjunct faculty member at St. John and Blessed John XXIII Seminaries and the Institute for Priestly Formation at Creighton University.  In 2010 Father Grimes was appointed pastor of St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish in Sherborn.  In addition to his responsibilities as pastor, Father Grimes has served the Archdiocese as the Vicar Forane in vicariate III of the West Region.

Father Grimes says that he finds the ministry of a parish priest - serving the people of the parish and accompanying them on their journey of faith - very rewarding.  As he looks to the future Father Grimes said that he is mindful of a prayer from his own ordination: “May God who has begun this good work in you bring it to completion.”  Father Grimes’ own prayer for the people of his two parishes is that “the power of God will continue to be at work in all of us.”

Anne Mangini, Business Manager

After having been trained and worked in the Mechanical design field a new pathway opened up for Anne Mangini at Most Precious Blood Parish Dover. Anne’s mother, having been the parish secretary for four years, recognized that Anne was ready to return to the workplace, having stayed home to raise her two children. A smooth transition took place from mother to daughter as Anne took up the responsibilities of our parish Secretary/Bookkeeper. Over the past 16 years Anne’s role at the parish has evolved keeping pace with the organizational changes within the archdiocese of Boston. The position now has evolved from Secretary/Bookkeeper to Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper to Business Manager/Facilities Manager/Administrative Assistant. At each step there have been professional training programs provided by the archdiocese to equip our parish personally with the competency in the skill set necessary for each of these areas. For Anne it may seem at times that God is full of surprises. She has professional fulfillment as well as personal satisfaction in serving the people of God in not only Most Precious Blood Parish but also St. Theresa’s Parish. Both of these parishes make up the designated church collaborative for the Dover/Sherborn community.
